Just up the hill from Bronte Beach, in Charing Cross, you’ll find us ­in a small cottage with a sunny courtyard shaded by a yellow-and-white striped awning. Settle in for a fish burger and a margarita slushie, pop past for takeaway, or drop by the soft-serve window after a dip.

Ours is no ordinary fish burger: we tested countless iterations until we found the perfect soft potato bun, just the right white fish that holds its shape (hake) and a tartare sauce with the ideal zesty kick; balanced with a golden ratio of cheese, lettuce and pickles. Along the way, we also hit upon a secret technique to create the ultimate potato scallop, balancing moreish umami and just the right crunch factor. The same attention-to-detail has been applied to the rest of the menu, which includes a tuna smash burger, prawn katsu burger, mushroom burger, along with fish and chips, salads and sides.

We have an approachable wine list available by the glass and bottle, with special selections by the bottle from the vintage cellar ­– burger and burgundy anyone? Plus, beer, soft drink, and a selection of cocktails. Along with the margarita slushies, there’s gin and tonic on tap, and ready-to-drink aperitivo spritz and limoncello spritz, made in collaboration with our mates at Ester Spirits. 

Open daily from 11am to 9pm with dine in and takeaway options, Bronte Road Fish is the local fish joint that everyone wished they had up the road.
